Michael Jackson videos are currently the number 1 searched item on Youtube.com since the news of his death had gone public. Not only has the video of his funeral service become the hottest streaming topic online as the memorial took place, Jackson’s music videos throughout the decades have also dominated the searches today.
The 1980’s were the most successful years for Michael Jackson as a musician due to his creative and innovative ideas to transform and revolutionize the world of music videos from a promotional tool to changing them into an art form which had then brought fame to a relatively new channel known as MTV. Michael Jackson’s videos such as “Black or White” and “Scream” made him an enduring staple on MTV well into the 1990’s and had noted him as the artist with the highest number of most expensive music videos ever made; “Scream” being at the top of the list at number 1. His music video “Thriller,” released in 1983, alone was listed in the Guinness World Records in 2006 as the most successful music video selling over 9million units. Rather than a conventional music video, it was more a full-fledged short subject or mini-film running for 14 minutes and included choreographed zombies which is a prime example of his unique way of interpreting his songs through his art-like videos.
For his videos to songs such as “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Bad” just to name a few, Jackson had displayed and popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques like the robot and the infamous moonwalk which has now become a household dance move for any of us Michael Jackson impersonators.
Due to his groundbreaking efforts in changing the face of what music videos should be, Michael Jackson videos now go hand-in-hand with Michael Jackson songs, both being as successful and admired as each other and more so coincide magically like no other artist has been able to produce.
