What are Soundtracks?

Soundtracks refer to three concepts that are interrelated. One refers to a recorded music that accompanies and is synchronized to the images of a motion picture, television program or video game. Second refers to a commercially released soundtrack album of music as featured in the soundtrack of a certain film or television show. Last refers to the physical area of a film that contains the synchronized recorded sound or music.

Soundtracks were first conceived by movie companies as promotion for new films and projects. The term was originally called "music from the original motion picture soundtrack" but was later on shortened to what is now known as "original motion picture soundtrack" or OST.

Soundtrack albums are released for various purposes. One is to promote the movie or production, while the other is to promote the artists or artist singing the soundtracks. Soundtrack covers usually portray a scene from the movie or an official movie poster or picture. This is to distinguish that the songs on the album are soundtracks from the movie and not the artist or artists themselves.
